Buying property in UAE: what to know
Foreign buyers can own freehold property in designated areas of Dubai, with ownership registered at the Dubai Land Department (DLD). Most international demand in the UAE is concentrated in Dubai, which is why our UAE coverage starts there.
Budget for costs on top of the price: a 4% DLD registration fee on a standard sale under Executive Council Resolution No. 30 of 2013 (initial off-plan sales can be split between buyer and seller), agency commission and, if you borrow, mortgage registration and bank fees.
Registered off-plan projects take buyer payments into escrow accounts supervised by RERA, and property worth AED 2 million or more can lead to long-term residency through the Golden Visa route, subject to current conditions.
